NSW schools to ban mobile phones
New South Wales public high school students won't be able to use their mobile phones during school hours as the state government fulfils one of its election promise.
The newly electedNSW premier Chris Minns announced the government will ban mobile phones across all public secondary schools from term four this year.
“We’re banning mobile phones in NSW public schools from day 1, term 4 – this year,” the ne wly minted Premier tweeted.
Phones are currently banned in public primary schools across the state but it's up to public secondary schools to decide on an approach.
The ban would apply during class, recess and lunch times but students can carry their phone while travelling to and from school.
Minns has revealed the government will start consulting with schools on options to implement the ban.
Western Australia, South Australia, the Northern Territory and Victoria – all of these states already ban mobile phones during school hours
