SL President Rajapaksa wishes speedy recovery for Trumps as US president begins experimental virus treatment at military hospital

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today expressed wishes for a speedy recovery for President of United States Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump, who tested positive for COVID-19 in the early hours of Friday.

Taking to his official Twitter account today (03), the President posted: “I wish speedy recovery for @POTUS @realDonaldTrump & @FLOTUS from the #COVID19. Prayers of the People of #SriLanka are with you in this difficult times.”

Mr Trump tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday night (local time) and less than 24 hours later, left the White House by helicopter for Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where he will spend a "few days".

The White House said the visit was precautionary and Mr Trump would work from the hospital's presidential suite, which is equipped to allow him to continue his official duties.

A source familiar with the situation said Mr Trump had a "mild" fever.

The President's physician, Sean Conley, said he recommended Mr Trump relocate to the hospital for monitoring.

"This evening I am happy to report that the President is doing very well," Dr Conley said in a statement tweeted by White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

Donald Trump's doctor says the US President is "doing very well" in hospital after receiving an experimental antibody treatment for COVID-19 and beginning a course of the drug remdesivir.
