The vibrant spirit of South Asia is set to illuminate Sydney as the SAFAL International Film Festival launches its 7th & 8th editions, bringing together a powerful lineup of films, filmmakers, and cultural experiences from across the globe. The festival will showcase a curated selection of feature films, documentaries, and short films that reflect the richness, diversity, and contemporary voices of South Asian cinema. Representing countries including India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, and the diaspora, SAFAL aims to promote cross-cultural dialogue and inspire new narratives.

A critically acclaimed musical biopic celebrating the life and legacy of Clarence Wijewardena, the “Father of Sinhala Pop Music.” From pioneering the electric guitar in Sri Lankan music to composing timeless melodies, Clarence’s story is brought to life by Damith Wijayathunga in the lead role, alongside a stellar cast including Nihari Perera, Saranga Disasekara, and Dinakshie Priyasad. Directed by Theja Iddamalgoda, with music direction by Sureah Maliyadda, Photography by Ruwan Costa, the film has captivated audiences with sold-out screenings and rave reviews since its Sri Lankan and global release.
Produced by Thusitha Wijeyasena, visionary founder of Kandy City Centre, the film is now touring internationally, with SAFAL screening being one of its key highlights.
This screening is a heartfelt tribute to Clarence Wijewardena, one of Sri Lanka’s most beloved and influential musical icons, whose legacy continues to resonate with generations. The film showcases his life, music, and the cultural imprint he left behind.
