BIA Records 14% Increase in Air Traffic in 2025
The Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has reported a 14.4% increase in air traffic during the first eight months of 2025, reflecting steady growth in Sri Lanka’s aviation sector.
According to official data, the number of air traffic movements rose from 38,607 in the same period of 2024 to 44,185 in 2025. Passenger handling has also shown a notable rise, with around 8,000 passengers recorded so far this year.
Authorities highlight a strong and growing demand for air travel, and the government is taking steps to further expand passenger capacity and improve infrastructure to meet the increasing demand in the coming years.
