China denies Sri Lankan state media report on zoom meeting

China has clarified that President Xi Jinping and his Sri Lankan counterpart Gotabaya Rajapaksa had not engaged in an online discussion over the weekend.

The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka further said that the two heads of state did not participate in the seminar held jointly by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) last week (04).

“The leaders of #China & #SriLanka always maintain close contacts and friendship. We expect more interactions in the days to come. However, President Xi Jinping & President @GotabayaR didn’t join the seminar between the CPC and the SLPP on 4th November.” The Embassy tweeted.

The clarification comes after the state newspaper Daily News had reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke with Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Zoom yesterday (08).

The report further said that the two leaders shared their experience on administrative matters according to reports.

However, issuing a statement, the Chinese Embassy in Colombo has denied the report.
