WIMAL’S WIFE SHASHI WEERAWANSA SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS IMPRISONMENT

Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court today imposed a two-years-rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 100,000 on Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and former Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

This is over an incident where Mrs. Weerawansa had fraudulently obtained two passports including a diplomatic passport by submitting forged documents to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

When the case was taken up today (May 27), the Colombo Magistrate’s Court also imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000 on the accused and an additional six months in prison if she does not pay the fine.

Lawyers appearing on behalf of Shashi Weerawansa filed an appeal against the ruling. The appeal is to be cindered on 30th of May.
