Sri Lankan Websites Under Cyber Attack targeting the National War Heroes Day

Several Sri Lankan websites including four government websites have come under a cyberattack on Tuesday by an internationally based organisation, targeting the National War Heroes Day, says Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT).

Three websites including that belonging to the Health Ministry, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Beijing were reportedly hacked this morning by an organisation calling itself the ‘Tamil Eelam Cyber Force’, Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) said.

“As of now we have resolved the issue. It was just a defacement of some of the pages. On just one website the main page was attacked, but on the others it was all sub-pages,” SLCERT Information Security Engineer Ravindu Meegasmulla said

Meegasmulla said over the years SLCERT has been taking stringent measures to prevent such attacks.

A similar attack on over 20 Sri Lankan websites was reported some years ago. Meegasmulla said the number of sites vulnerable have been brought down to three.

However, SLCERT is on the lookout for any more attacks, he said.

An investigation will be carried out to find the perpetrators, he added.
