Victorians from COVID hotspots face jail if they travel to NSW

People from Victoria's coronavirus hotspots will be banned from entering NSW and will face an $11,000 fine or six months' jail time if they breach that order, NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard has announced.
Mr Hazzard said that, while NSW normally loved travellers coming from interstate, those from virus hotspots in Melbourne were not currently welcome.
"We're sorry; that's not something we want to do, but we must do for our own safety," he said.
"As soon as you set foot in NSW you'll be exposed to the possibility of six months' jail or an $11,000 fine."
NSW residents will also be banned from visiting a Melbourne hot spot, with travellers in both directions facing fines of up to $11,000 or six months jail.
"If you choose to go there when you really shouldn't be going there, and you come back to NSW, you'll be required to go into isolation here for 14 days," Mr Hazzard said.
"And if you breach that order, you'll be liable to a penalty ... it could be an $11,000 fine or a six-month jail sentence."
Victorians will also be banned from entering stadiums in NSW as virus restrictions ease there. NSW authorities have said they will require people to show driver’s licences to prove they’re not from Victoria.
In NSW, 14 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed, all in returned travellers in hotel quarantine. Victoria recorded 73 new cases of COVID-19 — up from 64 the day before — with just three of those cases from hotel quarantine.
"The Victorian situation should be taken very, very seriously," Mr Hazzard said on Wednesday morning. "Don’t get cocky, don’t get complacent, it could happen anywhere."
The NSW restrictions apply to more than 300,000 people from the folowing 36 Melbourne suburbs authorities consider to have an “unacceptably high” number of coronavirus cases.
